West Solent Sea School is a small RYA training centre based in Keyhaven Harbour, in the Western Solent, on the South Coast of the UK. We are an RYA recognised training centre, so are able to deliver courses that are of high quality and are internationally recognised.
The harbour is a beautiful tidal inlet, with channels and creeks winding through the lush green salt marshes.
The river entrance leads out into some of the finest cruising ground in the UK, which also plays host to world class yacht racing and an area steeped in maritime history.
Our Centre Principal and Chief Instructor is Tim Stickley, an RYA Powerboat Instructor who has grown up in Lymington, sailing and boating on both Lymington and Keyhaven Rivers, and who knows the Solent waters like the back of his hand. Recently, he has spent time working in the Canaries and the Caribbean as a safety inspector for yachts embarking on circumnavigations with World ARC.
Tim first 'stepped' on board a boat aged about 6 weeks, and has been developing his skills on the water ever since. He spent 12 years teaching science to GCSE level and holds RYA Yachtmaster Offshore, Advanced Powerboat, VHF Radio Assessor, Safety Boat, First Aid, VHF Radio and Dinghy Instructor certificates.
We have a number of instructors who work for us; they are only ever of the highest calibre, handpicked to ensure they deliver high quality learning and have a background in education. Our instructors all know the Solent waters incredibly well, and will give a lot of value-added to your course.
All of our instructors hold RYA Powerboat Instructor, First Aid and VHF Radio certificates as a minimum. Many of them are Offshore Yachtmasters.
If you would like to attend a course but can't make our dates, get in touch and we can organise the course around you.
